Core Maths

Core Maths is a course for those who want to keep up their valuable maths skills but are not planning to take AS or A-level mathematics. At the end of the two-year course, you will come out with a level 3 qualification – similar to an AS. The qualification is assessed by final examination and some courses also offer the option of submitting a portfolio of coursework.

The aim of this Work Group is to support teachers to address the new curriculum and challenges of Core Mathematics. Within the Jurassic Hub there have been two pilot schools and three early adopter schools who worked together to develop teaching approaches and resources. This work was disseminated through Leader Networks and dedicated events.

For 2017-18 there is a fresh Work Group, in line with the national project, that aims to support the teaching of Core Maths, particularly in light of the recently publish Smith Review.

The Work Group Leader is Scott Doswell from Kingsbridge Community College (doswell.s@kingsbridgecollege.org.uk).  He works closely with our Level 3 Lead, Tom Rainbow (trainbow@ivybridge.devon.sch.uk).
