Poole Grammar Teacher Subject Specialism Training
Poole Teaching School Alliance are to run ‘Teacher Subject Specialism Training’ to all schools in the local region for the school year 2015-16.
The course is FREE and open to all teachers at schools who wish to convert either partially or wholly from their main subject to become Maths teachers. At the end of the course they will become fully qualified Maths teachers and will obtain a Certificate in Mathematical Mastery. For more information please visit pooletsa.org.uk
Further Maths Support Programme
The Further Mathematics Support Programme (FMSP) has a very limited number of places still available on an extended professional development course for teachers of A level Mathematics in state funded schools and colleges, taking place in venues around the country.. Wessex School Improvement Partnership
The Wessex School Improvement Partnership recognises mathematics as a high priority in Dorset and fundamental to this is developing a self-improving system. One of it’s aims is to ensure all schools in Dorset have access to opportunities to develop teaching and learning in mathematics. In addition, outstanding schools need to be at the forefront of new discoveries in mathematics. Free FE and Skills Workshop
There is still time to benefit from the free support offered by the NCETM as part The Education & Training Foundation Maths Pipeline. Free maths workshops are running until July 2015 across the country. Open to all teachers and trainers from the FE and skills sector, these day-long CPD sessions support anyone teaching maths up to Level 2 within GCSE. IMA Mathematics Teacher Training Scholarships
The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) is offering Mathematics Teacher Training Scholarships of £25 000, aimed at those with potential to be both inspiring classroom teachers and leaders in maths education.
The current round of applications closes on 16 June, and there will be one further application round before the end of July 2015.
Development of Primary Mathematics Specialist teachers
New programme to develop 140 primary mathematics specialist teachers to drive forward teaching for mastery
Details have been announced of a new programme to train 140 primary teachers to become specialists in mastery approaches to teaching maths. It significantly builds on the work already underway – as part of the Maths Hubs programme – to spread and embed teaching for mastery approaches in maths lessons in English primary schools.
The programme is aimed at existing teachers who have already demonstrated a passion and talent for teaching mathematics, and have the potential to both develop their own teaching skills in line with mastery approaches and pass those on to others.
A full description of the programme and details of how to apply can be found on the NCETM website. Applications should be received by 5pm on 4 June, at the latest.
FMSP extended CPD courses
Teaching Statistics (TS) is a new extended professional development course starting in July 2015 for teachers wishing to develop their own subject knowledge and classroom practice. The course will focus on the topics currently needed for S1 and the content for the new linear A level starting in 2017. The course runs from July 2015 till January 2016.

Teaching Further Mathematics (TFM) is a well-established course which also starts in July 2015, it is an extended professional development course for teachers wishing to develop their own subject knowledge and classroom practice in teaching A level Further Mathematics. There are two units, TFM1 and TFM2.

Teaching Advanced Maths (Masters Level Course)
The Teaching Advanced Mathematics (TAM) course is run by MEI in partnership with universities from around the country and provides sustained high quality professional development focussed on A level Mathematics subject knowledge and pedagogy. For more information click here
A new sustained six-month PD course starting in July 2015 for teachers wishing to develop their own subject knowledge and classroom practice. TS1 will cover the statistics content in the new A level Mathematics and in Core Maths qualifications.
TS1 is designed for teachers who are already teaching some statistics or who wish to teach it at some point in the near future. You may be an experienced teacher who wishes to learn more about statistics or someone who has not taught statistics and wants to develop your own subject knowledge to enable you to teach confidently.
