The aim of this programme is to support you to develop the principles of Teaching for Mastery in your department. The fully-funded programme enables you and another teacher from your school to become ‘Mastery Advocates’. Initially, you will be part of a Work Group for a year and, supported by a Secondary Mastery Specialist (a trained expert teacher from a local school) you will work in your own classroom and across your department to develop a bespoke programme of professional development suitable for your needs.
The aim of this fully funded national programme is to support your own professional development in a sustained way and allow you the opportunity to lead PD for teachers in your own school and beyond. The programme focusses on developing the use of NCETM’s five big ideas of Teaching for Mastery including learning about the effective use of variation theory and how to use representation to support students to work with mathematical structure.
Also integral to the Secondary Mastery Specialist is the NCETM’s PD Lead accreditation programme which will support you in leading high-quality professional development for colleagues in your department and, eventually, in other schools.
