2020/21 Information and Application Form (September 2020) This programme aims to support existing mathematics SLEs in developing their approaches to mathematics school improvement work including drawing on the expertise of approaches used in the Maths Hubs Programme, such as teaching for mastery. It will provide a regional support programme for participants through three workshops and an online community.
The SLE Programme is only open to designated mathematics SLEs attached to a Teaching School. The programme involves three face-to-face days, independent study and school-based work. Throughout the three days, participants will engage in specific sessions to develop:
• skills in driving the improvement in maths, including developing the capacity of school leadership of maths
• knowledge and understanding of the challenges and barriers to school improvement in maths and how to tackle them
• knowledge and understanding of effective teaching of maths including teaching for mastery.
The programme will run in regional locations in the North, Midlands and the South. Applicants will need to attend all three dates in their chosen cohort.
Who should apply?
The programme is for current maths SLEs linked to a Teaching School and will benefit those who have previous experience of developing leadership capacity in schools or who are new to the role. Participants will be expected to commit to the full programme of activities and will need the support of the headteacher of their own school and Teaching School.
The SLE development programme is funded by the Maths Hubs Programme. Funding covers provision of the three face-to-face days.
Successful SLEs will be sponsored by their local Maths Hub to cover supply costs for four days (the three face-to-face days and one day for in-school tasks) at £200 per day and travel expenses. This means that all applicants must be sponsored by a Maths Hub. Please indicate on your application form which Maths Hub you are applying to for sponsorship.
