Core Maths is a course for those who want to keep up their valuable maths skills but are not planning to take AS or A-level mathematics. At the end of the two-year course, students will leave with a level 3 qualification – similar to an AS. The qualification is assessed by final examination and some courses also offer the option of submitting a portfolio of coursework. The Smith Review highlighted the need for a course of this nature.
The aim of this Work Group is to support teachers to address the new curriculum and challenges of teaching Core Mathematics which is quite different to other courses. Within the Jurassic Hub there have been two pilot schools and three early adopter schools who worked together to develop teaching approaches and resources. This work was disseminated through Leader Networks and dedicated events. Since then there has been an on-going work group to support Schools and Colleges with the introduction of the course.
The work group this year is being run in conjunction with the AMSP and is being led by Jo Denton, AMSP Regional Lead, and Phil Eadie, Jurassic Hub Level 3 Lead. Click on the link below for full information and to join the group.
