        Helping students to unlock strategies to solve problems in geometry.

Session Overview

By exploiting connections between various KS3 and KS4 geometric content, we will compare different approaches to solve particular problems in shape and space. This will lead us to exploring strategies that can be employed by teachers to help their students find a path through the unfamiliar.

Short biography

Ed Southall is the maths curriculum designer for Oak National Academy, and maths specialist for the secondary PGCE at the University of Huddersfield.

He has worked in education as a lead teacher, head of department,  senior leader, and advisor for 17 years in both primary and secondary schools at home and abroad in the Middle East. He is the author of 4 mathematics books including the best selling pedagogy subject knowledge book “Yes, But Why? Teaching for Understanding in Mathematics”, and most recently, “Geometry Juniors” for 8-12 year olds. Ed is also a senior member of the Mathematical Association and a popular presence on twitter amongst mathematics teachers and enthusiasts across the globe.
