Research project to shape national support for Core Maths.
What is involved?
This new national Research and Innovation Work Group (RIWG) offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of support for non-maths teachers who may go on to teach Core Maths.
Participants will explore: How can teachers from other subjects build the mathematical understanding and pedagogy needed for effective Core Maths teaching?
Together, the group will trial materials that build on subject-specific maths knowledge and develop confidence in teaching concepts including estimation, percentages, statistics, and graphs through contextualised problem-solving. The focus will be on pedagogy, not just content, and will draw on the principles of teaching for mastery.

Who can take part?
This online national Work Group brings together post-16 teachers from any non-maths subject who regularly use GCSE-level maths in their own teaching. You do not need to be currently teaching Core Maths.
It’s ideal for those looking to deepen their understanding of the maths used in their own subject or considering teaching Core Maths.
