Primary Teaching for Mastery Introductory Work Groups 2025/26 – Apply Now

If your school is ready to begin the journey to implement teaching for mastery with fidelity, you can join a Work Group starting in the new academic year.
During the 2025/26 school year, Maths Hubs across England will be working with thousands of primary schools to continue the spread of teaching for mastery across England.

The Teaching for Mastery Programme is a professional development opportunity designed to support schools to develop best practice in maths. It is suitable for both state funded and special schools interested in implementing a teaching for mastery approach to maths.

What is involved?

Each school will nominate two participants to attend six Work Group sessions, led by an experienced Mastery Specialist. Participants will work with their school leaders to begin developing and implementing a shared vision for maths, with a focus on improving pupil understanding, promoting positive attitudes to maths and developing consistent, high quality teaching practises across the school.

Who can take part?

Primary schools in England that have not previously engaged in teaching for mastery. Schools must commit to the two year programme , nominate two participants – typically the maths lead and one other – and ensure active headteacher involvement.

There are limited spaces so each Maths Hub will use set criteria to allocate spaces to this Work Group.

If you are interested in joining a Teaching for Mastery Work Group, contact your local Maths Hub.

NB: Schools can only take part in this particular Work Group once. However, there are other Work Groups dealing with teaching for mastery which are available if your school has previously taken part.
