Primary Teaching for Mastery Introductory Work Groups 2026/27

The Teaching for Mastery Programme is a professional development opportunity designed to support schools to develop best practice in maths.  It is suitable for both state funded and special schools interested in implementing a teaching for mastery approach to maths.

Who can take part?

Primary schools that have not previously engaged in teaching for mastery.  Where possible, each school will nominate a maths lead and one other participant who are expected to lead development  in school.  These participants must be empowered by the headteacher to implement and evaluate changes to school policies and practices. Headteacher involvement is essential, particularly during school visits and key Work Group sessions.

What is the cost?

This is funded by the Maths Hubs Programme; there is no charge for participating schools.

Each term, the Work Group Lead will visit schools to support leaders in developing systems that establish and embed teaching for mastery. Headteacher involvement is essential, particularly during school visits and key Work Group sessions.
