Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics – Secondary Early Career Teachers 2026/27

Who can take part?

Participants will be those identified as having recently started their teaching career; for this programme that means teachers in their second or third year of teaching.

This one-year programme supports secondary ECTs to develop their specialist knowledge for teaching maths, underpinned by the principles of teaching for mastery.

There are two ways to take part in this programme;

What is the cost?

The Work Groups run by the Maths Hubs Programme are free to attend for participating state schools.

What this programme offers

This one-year programme supports secondary ECTs to develop their specialist knowledge for teaching maths, underpinned by the principles of teaching for mastery.

Expectations

Participants must attend the equivalent of four days, where they will work collaboratively on maths tasks. Between sessions, participants contribute to their online community, complete school-based tasks, and share their observations through discussions with peers (including their mentor).
