Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics- Primary and Special Schools Teaching Assistants NCP26-27

Who can take part?

This programme is designed for primary and special school teaching assistants who are supporting maths, and who would like to develop their specialist knowledge for teaching maths. This may be particularly relevant for teaching assistants who have not recently received maths-specific training.

The programme will focus on what is effective in the learning and teaching of mathematics and will include;

  • Number sense
  • Place Value
  • Additive Reasoning
  • Multiplicative Reasoning

What is the cost?

This SKTM Primary Teaching Assistant Programme is funded by the Maths Hubs Programme; there is no charge for participating schools.

 

 

What this programme offers

This programme is designed to improve the subject knowledge and pedagogical knowledge for all practitioners supporting the learning of primary maths.

It supports primary teaching assistants who are supporting maths to develop specialist knowledge for teaching maths, and to develop distinct pedagogical decision-making, which will impact on their practice when supporting maths. 

Expectations

Teaching assistants attending will participate in the four online PD days plus a short online introductory session and undertake tasks in school between the days.
